October 23, 2009

Tonight, I knew I would be a fly before I arrived.

Lets start at the beginning. A friend of mine asked if I wanted to go to a Curling Open House. HUH??? Curling??? I know I’ve heard of it, but I’m not quite sure what it is. So, off to the Internet I go. Once I refreshed my memory, I told her “sure, what time?”

So, Friday night we meet at the Wauwatosa’s Curling Club in Hart Park. Hmmmmm, don’t think I’m going to find any flies here. Why? Well, for one, it’s a balmy 33 degrees where you curl (and that’s inside). Flies don’t typically participate in cold weather activities (have you ever seen a fly in the winter?). Secondly, it’s a sport played on ice, originated by the Scots. Thought balloon…Scottish Flies??? Spanish fly I’ve heard of, but Scottish fly - I don’t think so.

Well after a very quick introduction to Curling, off to the ice we went. OMG…it was soooo much fun and the members of the club were fabulous (and oh so patient). They really displayed a desire to help you learn the sport. I must say, my 1 hour visit turned into 3 and my friend and I are now official members of the Wauwatosa Curling Club. We start classes Wednesday!

I think I might be the first fly member of the club. Awesome!!
